Umzumbe Municipality is a local municipality within the Ugu District Municipality, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The municipality is named after the Umzumbe River. Towns within the municipal boundaries include Friedenau, KwaDweshula, St Faith’s, and Umzumbe.

The Umzumbe Municipality is inviting applications for five (x5) Finance Management Internships. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and grow your career in public finance.

Internship Overview

  • Position: Finance Management Intern (x5 positions)
  • Department: Finance Department
  • Duration: 2-year fixed-term contract
  • Salary: R100,000.00 per annum plus 13th cheque
  • Closing Date: 23 April 2025

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric/Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma or 3-year Degree in one of the following:
    • BCom
    • Financial Management
    • Accounting
    • Taxation
    • Auditing
  • Computer literacy (MS Office essential)
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work under pressure

Key Responsibilities

Interns will receive hands-on training and gain practical exposure in areas such as:

  • Implementation of MFMA, GRAP, and budget reforms
  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Expenditure, supply chain, and procurement management
  • Revenue and income control
  • Asset management
  • Support with compliance and audits
